The Merger

by Karyn 2. February 2010 18:39

We hear the term merger most often as related to companies – two separate organizations or entities coming together as one.  But we seldom think about mergers in our own lives, although we often experience them.

We merge when we marry.

We merge when we befriend another.

We merge when we accept employment.

We merge when we trust a college with our child, and our money!

To merge is to join forces. I’ve been thinking a lot lately about mergers because I have been in the process of unifying my online presence. I’ve been merging my writing into one location. This was not my idea, but the suggestion of others – Tami, Rachel and my “Fresh Start” sisters. On this site, you will now see excerpts from my Everyday Christian commentaries addressing current issues of our culture, devotionals such as those previously posted on Prayerfully Penned, book reviews, and more – all clothed in one outfit! I’m excited about this more unified presentation of my multi-faceted self.

So, how’s your presentation? I’m really not talking about your online presence, just your presence on this earth. Is it unified? Are there any areas of your life where you are presenting yourself one way in one place, and another way someplace else? Do you need to pull some things together so that you display a more unified message?

Be assured I am asking myself the same questions.

We merge when we choose to follow Jesus Christ as Lord. How faithful are we in walking out this merger?

Prayerfully penned,

Karyn

The theme of integration has been on my mind lately. Integration of self (being united and balanced in all the areas of humanness: heart, soul, mind and body), integration with others (I love your phrase: Joining forces), and integration with God.

Even these three areas of integration require integration with each other. You can't really integrate well with others if you're not personally integrated, but you don't know you're not until you try to "merge."

It's enough to give me a headache just thinking about the challenges of integration. I have to keep in mind the perfect integration of God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit, who are our model and power-source for community and wholeness.
