The Blemish

by Karyn 26. February 2010 15:35

A blemish. When I looked in the mirror first thing this morning, it was there. Big, round and red. Why did it have to be today, Lord?

I’m in Nashville attending a national conference for Women in Christian Media. Today’s lineup includes veterans like the world-renowned Kay Arthur. Of course I want to look perfect .

As I stared at the blemish in the mirror, and began to cover it carefully with concealer, I began to wonder, what other blemishes do I cover each day? Reminded that I am not perfect on the outside or the inside, I thanked God for His unconditional love for me, and headed out the door.

None of us are free from spot or stain. We all have imperfections, especially on the inside. Even if we hide them from the world, God sees. But He is faithful to forgive and to heal.

I went to the opening session to hear my amazing friend, Karol Ladd, give the keynote message. Guess what she brought with her to the podium. A mirror.

Our theme is “Reflecting His Glory”, our daily call as believers in Christ. Note the word “reflecting.” Our call is to reflect His glory to the world. We are a marred image, however, of the perfection of Christ.   We are told in 1 Corinthians 13:12 that for now, we only see in a mirror dimly, but one day we will see face-to-face the perfect love and glory of God. Our vision and our reflection are limited in this life, but one day, both will be perfected. What a day that will be!

For now, I am reminded to worry less about my own perfection and my own image, and concern myself wholly with reflecting His. And I am encouraged to know that no blemish of mine is big enough to block His great light from reflecting off my face.

Prayerfully penned,

Karyn
