Have you always been a Christian?

by Karyn 10. March 2010 09:30
“I’ve been a Christian all my life.” A kind lady proudly shared this with me yesterday.  I always stop and wonder what God thinks of that. I’m thrilled so many like her claim the name of Christian, but I fear that many do not grasp its meaning, and one day, their label may prove meaningless. Compare it to the word Haitian .  It means of or relating to th... [More]

Blessed Assurance

by Karyn 5. March 2010 15:21
Assurance means more than being sure, even though that’s its root word. It refers to a certainty, but also to a pledge or a promise. For me, this sheds new light on Fannie Crosby’s old familiar hymn, Blessed Assurance. I grew up singing it in church and playing it on the piano alongside my grandmother. But as a girl, I did not grasp the truth it proclaims. I find now that I appreciate ... [More]

Secretary Clinton encourages Brazilians to legalize abortion

by Karyn 5. March 2010 08:37
Today's Commentary
This past Wednesday in an interview with Brazil’s Globo Network in Sao Paulo, Secretary Hillary Clinton encouraged Brazilians to consider legalizing abortions. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised. After all, she has always been a pro-choice politician like many in her party. But it just sends shivers up my spine to read it in print. Abortion is, after all, the killing of a baby. Continu... NCAA says "no" to celebrating family

by Karyn 4. March 2010 00:55
Today's Commentary
Should the NCAA have pulled a Focus on the Family ad from their website? The ad said, “Celebrate Family. Celebrate Life. All I want for my son is for him to grow up knowing how to do the right thing.” Bill O’Reilly called the ad, “harmless” on his show Wednesday. His guest, the President of the Women’s Media Group, Jehmu Greene, agreed, calling it benign. But... [More]

President Bush testifies to the truth of the cross

by Karyn 3. March 2010 15:50
Today's Commentary
I had the pleasure of attending the Prestonwood Pregnancy Center annual fundraising dinner this past Sunday for “An Evening with George W. Bush”.   Listening to this leader share was a breath of fresh air. While I may not agree with every decision he made – and I dare say no one agrees with anyone 100% of the time – I respect him as a prayerful decision-maker who routinely acted in his best ... [More]

The Blemish

by Karyn 26. February 2010 15:35
A blemish. When I looked in the mirror first thing this morning, it was there. Big, round and red. Why did it have to be today, Lord?   I’m in Nashville attending a national conference for Women in Christian Media. Today’s lineup includes veterans like the world-renowned Kay Arthur. Of course I want to look perfect . As I stared at the blemish in the mirror, and began to cover it carefully wi... [More]
